Status Bar Marquee

Generate your own scrolling Status Bar:

Look at the status bar at the bottom of the browser.

This does not work in all browsers.

There are other varieties of this script, but more modern browsers do not support this function. The ability to change the status bar was used for fraud by "phishers".

On a normal hyperlink, the link address shows in the status bar. Phishers were able to override this with javascript and thereby trick people into thinking they were going to a legitimate site, when in fact they were being directed to a phishing site or site which would install malware or worse.

For this reason, it is not advisable to use status bar scripts. This script is one of the few that still work in IE, but not in the latest releases of Firefox and many other popular browsers.

It is here for you to experiment with, but it is not advisable to use on a site.
